Erwin Bendig was born in 1931. He lived in several sanatoriums, among others in the Samaritan Institutions Fürstenwalde/Spree in Ketschendorf. On 12 February 1941, he was transferred to the State Sanatorium and Mental Hospital in Bernburg on the River Saale as part of “Aktion T4”, a mass-murder campaign involving the involuntary euthanasia of sick and disabled people. He was murdered there in the euthanasia programme’s killing centre.
