Moritz Groß was born into a Jewish family in Schöndorf (Polish: Wzgórze Wolności), today a town district of Bromberg (Polish: Bydgoszcz), on 18 August 1889. He moved to Fürstenwalde with his wife Betty Rebecca (née Edel) and his sons Julius, born 1917, and Heinz, born 1919. The family lived at Frankfurter Straße 18.

Moritz Groß was imprisoned and deported to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp. On 2 April 1942, he was deported to the Warsaw Ghetto, where he was in all likelihood murdered. Both his wife Betty and his son Julius fell victim to the terror system of the National Socialists too. The younger son Heinz survived and emigrated to the United States in 1949. The family’s property at Frankfurter Straße 18 was forcibly expropriated by the city of Frankfurt (Oder) on 22 May 1942.
