Ursula Kowalski was born a healthy child in 1913. At the age of four, she contracted meningitis (inflammation of the membranes of the brain). Despite her recovery, she suffered lasting mental damage. Ursula now began to live in a series of sanatoriums. Among other places, she was a resident at the Samaritan Institutions Fürstenwalde/Spree in Ketschendorf. In the course of “Aktion T4”, a mass-murder campaign involving the involuntary euthanasia of sick and disabled people, she was transferred to the State Sanatorium and Mental Hospital in Bernburg on the River Saale. There she was murdered in the euthanasia programme’s killing centre on 27 January 1941.
