Walter Fürstenberg was born in 1885. He lived in several sanatoriums, among others in the Samaritan Institutions Fürstenwalde/Spree in Ketschendorf. On 24 June 1941, he was transferred to the State Sanatorium and Mental Hospital in Bernburg on the River Saale as part of “Aktion T4”, a mass-murder campaign targeting sick and disabled people. He was murdered there in the euthanasia programme’s killing centre.
