Werner Brandt was born into a Jewish family in Fürstenwalde on 15 May 1923. His parents Eugen and Rosa lived at Mühlenstraße 4 with his older siblings Rudolph and Gerda. The family ran a shop for “haberdashery, drapery, trimmings, woollen and fashion goods”.

Following Eugen Brandt’s imprisonment during the 1938 November pogroms, Werner’s older brother Rudolph fled to France and his older sister Gerda to Brazil. Werner was then living in Berlin, moving between the districts of Wilmersdorf and Grunewald.

After his father’s release, the parents initially moved to Berlin. From there, the couple were deported on 12 January 1943 to the Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp, where they were murdered. Werner suffered the same fate on 26 February 1943. The exact date of the 19-year-old’s death is not known.
